They
Who exactly are “They”?
And why do they always have so much to say?
You know who I am talking about.
The ones who initiated all of the clichés that we live our life by.
The ones who set up all of the parameters for us to follow.
Whenever someone needs to prove a point they never fail to quote “They.”
As a matter of fact,
They are quoted more than Confucius and the wise man who once told us all something combined.
What did he tell us again?
Well that doesn’t matter.
They are the ones, who brought us sayings like the grass
is always greener on the other side,
it’s better to have loved and lost than to never have lost at all,
there is no I in team
and the early bird catches the worm.
Well, whoever they are I don’t think they spent much time in the real world because many of their
sayings are contradictory to real life application.
My grandmother would be absolutely appalled if you said that anyone’s grass was greener than hers
and the people who live across the street from her haven’t watered their grass probably since ’86
and the two blades of grass that they do have are far from any shade of green.
Tell my grandmother the grass is greener on the other side, and she will soon tell you where you can go.
And as for the love thing—
I was once in love and after it all hit the fan and pieces of broken heart went flying every where
and after over $2,000 of therapy,
22 I hate you letters
and 17 poems that were never mailed, $5,000 of romance debt,
6 mistresses,
and dysfunctional
could have been in-laws
I think it is safe to say that it was better to have never loved than to have loved and lost my damn mind.
And as far as the no I in team,?ask Kobe and he would tell you that the “I” in team…is silent.
And what about the early bird thing.
I mean, really, who wants to wake up early to catch worms.
How about this, you catch worms, and I’ll catch Z’s.
But who are these people
that govern our emotional and spiritual lives?
There is no room for heroes.
They are not the righteous;
they are the majority of long ago and never before.
The conquerors.
Like Catholics,
And Columbus’.
And White Men.
I wonder what was there before They got here.
If I could go back to 2nd grade and rewrite my paper on
who I wanted to be when I grew up,
I think it would have gone something to the effect of “Screw the president of the United States, I want to be the president of They.”
No one else has more control.
I mean how cool must it be to go completely unnoticed and to control the lives of so many—
and you thought it was God.
The CIA has nothing on They.
If it sounds cultish…it is,
but even Charles Manson couldn’t pull off the efforts of They.
I think my mother was a blue blood member of the They Society.
I know this because whenever she use to tell me to do something that didn’t make sense to me and I asked her why,
If she felt inclined to answer me at all she would say,
“Because I said so” and looked at me like “if you ask me another question I will knock you to tomorrow.”
And you know what, I was silent.
That’s power.
My grandmother had the same power, so did my grandfather,
and aunts and uncles
and even my father.
“I said so,”
was my universal explanation.
So I asked her,
“when can I have that kind of power to make people do what I want regardless of the lack of sensibility?”
And she told me “when you get out of my house and pay some bills.”
Well, happy or not, I’m flying solo now and this…
as you guessed it, is a bill…
paid in full by yours truly.
It’s only for $34.95
but, nevertheless, it is paid.
So now I am a neophyte member of the They organization.
--And now, as a member of They I am eliminating the “bill pay,
own place” clause.
Who am I to buck the system?
I don’t really want to buck it; I just want to give it a little nudge like Miller says. I want all of you to be a part of the They Organization.
The best part about being a member of They,
is that you don’t have to listen to other members of They,
or anyone else for that matter.
To those of you who want to gain a new found power and control over life,
I would like for you to raise your right hand and repeat after me:
“I, state your name…
<Come on people this is THEY that we are talking about… the elitists!
If we are going to rule the world seamlessly we are going to have to work on enthusiasm, unity cohesiveness….lets try again.>
I, state your name…do solemnly swear… to uphold the anonymity of They….To be omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient…
To create and spread vague unpractical clichés…
to set the parameters for mankind…
guide the lives of others in times of darkness…
to blaze my own trail…
to listen to myself first and foremost…
never to explain or interpret my thoughts or actions…
because I have the best judgment…
and to induct other promising members into the organization…
in order to preserve the immortality of They…
This I pledge.”
