Have you ever looked on the back of your lotion or shampoo bottle and attempted to pronounce the ingredients? What is Propylparaben or Sodium Laurel Sulfate anyway? And worse yet, what are these substances actually doing to your body?
The truth is, the cosmetic industry is one of the least regulated industries in the United States. The FDA oversees cosmetics, but unlike drugs, cosmetics do not require the FDA’s approval before going onto the market.
These unregulated toxins lurking in our shampoo, lotion, lipstick, face wash, hand cream and many other cosmetic products have been shown to cause an array of health problems. According to the Endocrine Society, many of the chemicals found in typical cosmetics are endocrine disruptors, meaning they alter the hormonal or homeostatic systems of the organisms they’re exposed to. Endocrine disruptors have been heavily linked to infertility, birth defects, neurological issues, diabetes, obesity, testicular cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, uterine cancer and ovarian cancer.
The good news is, there are loads of all-natural body products out there on the market to use in place of these toxic chemical-laden items. The bad news is, higher quality products generally mean higher prices.
Thankfully, though, a number of cosmetic brands out there sell affordable, natural products to meet your beauty needs without breaking the bank. Give one of these natural products a shot, and you may never go back to your traditional cosmetic brands again!
